23 Dec Spotlight | National Domestic Violence Hotline | Here for you.
As we know, domestic violence, sexual violence, and abuse rates have increased dramatically since the pandemic began. Portland saw an increase of 22% in arrests related to domestic violence only a week after the city went into lockdown in March 2020. In the United Kingdom, 61% of domestic violence victims reported their abuse has increased since the lockdown. Factors such as stress, isolation, and financial instability can contribute to enhancing hostility in an already unsafe environment.
To address this issue, the US organization, National Domestic Violence Hotline, offers resources on planning for safety and identifying abuse, as well as 24/7 hour access to free and confidential victim support. Everyone deserves a safe and happy holiday season, resources such as these can be life-saving for some people and can make an incredibly positive impact on the lives of many.
